Well, I’m easing back from my de facto hiatus with another “Shit I’ve Done…”
Below is my final project for my Introduction To Sound Design class that I took last quarter. My professor was this guy, one of the best teachers I’ve ever had- incredibly knowledgeable and concerned only with sharing every skill he had with anyone who wanted to learn.
For this project, we were given a choice of about two dozen different movie clips of varying length and complexity take from everything from Barton Fink to Revenge of the Sith (which he worked on). The clips were entirely silent and our task was to build a soundtrack from scratch. We had access to the school’s sound design library, which numbers at about 105,000 sound effects, but had to record any foley we wanted/needed or any required ADR ourselves. I enjoyed the class a great deal, and so I went for one of the longer and more complex clips, from Jurrasic Park. Embedded below is my final result, which I’m fairly pleased with.
The ADR was intended to be well synched, but sound rediculous, so go ahead and laugh when you hear my deep-ass voice sounding squeeky coming out of the little kid. The T-Rex’s roar is made of about 5 different sounds (I think Skywalker’s roar was 16 different sounds) including a baby elephant and an industrial stamping noise.
Enjoy!
