It’s nothing new to say Hellboy was a nice little surprise wrapped up in a satisfying package and delivered by our favorite son of Mexico. Hellboy‘s release feels like ages ago thanks to a bit of languishing/dumping by Columbia and a pickup by Universal, but as we know, its sequel is pressing forward toward a 2008 release. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army info has a been a little sparse, but an interview with Luke Goss, (the split-chinned pooty mouth Reaper Nomak from Blade II ) gives a tidbit by way of the stock response actors use when expounding on a villainous role.
Goss explains Universal has his mouth NDA’d shut (NDA? puss), but did flesh out a little more detail on his role as bad guy The Prince, malcontent son of The King but of no relation to squeaking pop stars, tides or mummy-fighting retirement home heroes.
"The great thing about him is he’s not trying to take over the world, he’s a rounded character that’s not just driven by greed and I think people are going to enjoy the depth Guillermo brings to him. Like with Blade II, I’m a big fan of taking the maniacal out of anything."
That’s great, because I’m a big fan of taking anything with monocles.
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army is still over a year away, but is shooting in the tax-breakariffic Budapest in just a few weeks – plenty of time to get it wrapped up for its scheduled August 2008 release. If you’d like to read the full interview, (which isn’t as shocking as you might think) behold it here.
