Watch out Prometheus, Sam Raimi’s got his own prequel! Raimi’s next flick, Oz the Great and Powerful, a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, won’t hit theaters until 2013 but now it has a teaser poster. As much as I love Raimi, my excitement level for this film is pretty much non-existent. I don’t know exactly what project I wish Raimi were doing, but not this one. But I’llbedamned, I kinda like this poster. Possibly even like it a lot. Johnny Depp leaving the film probably is bad news for its future box office, but it did wonders for the poster. Cause you know if Depp were starring in Oz, the poster would just be a big goofy picture of him making a goofy face.

When Oscar Diggs (James Franco, replacing Johnny Depp, replacing Robert Downey Jr.), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.
