H.R. Giger gets a lot of love for his contributions to Alien with his xenomorph design, as well he should. But it’s easy to forget that he wasn’t the only design artist doing incredible work on the film. The Giger-infused alien designs are juxtaposed by the human aspects of the film overseen by Chris Foss and Ron Cobb. They hold the credit for the laborious Nostromo ship, both internally and externally.
For Prometheus, most of the design-work has fallen on Arthur Max. His team of artists were tasked with the job of rebuilding the Alien world from the ground up. This includes elements both human and extraterestial. We’ll be able to judge their contributions when the film releases June 8th*. Until then, we have this featurette providing us insight into the ship, itself. I like what I see:
*CHUD will have a review up at 12AM on the day of release.
