Today is apparently trailer day as Rockstar decides to unleash the final Max Payne 3 trailer on us before the game launches on May 15th. As someone who has a tenuous relationship with the originals (great ideas, frustratingly spotty execution), I’ve been kinda stunned to realize how many people aren’t fans of the series becoming less like Sin City, more like City of God. Granted, there’s a few more Tony Scott touches in this and the other trailers than I’d prefer, but the change of pace and tone is very welcome, especially with the tired, grizzled, older bear Max has become as opposed to the new-age Sam Spade of games prior.
Atmosphere and story was never the series’ problem, though. If Rockstar can ace the gameplay the way that you can damn near guarantee they did the storyline, we’ll have something special on our hands.
