It seems like just about every interesting actor has been offered the part of Lee Woo-Jin. I’m sorry, Adrian Pryce, the man who menaces Joe Douchett (that name sounds….douchey) in the Oldboy remake. Gents like Clive Owen, Colin Firth, even Bale.
Well, it’s finally been offered to Wickus himself, Sharlto Copley, and he’s accepted the role*. I like this. Copley did an amazing job in both District 9 and The A-Team, and I can’t wait to see how he handles playing a villain. I’m hoping for equal parts crazy and subdued. The way it was played by the actor in the original was very restrained, and I appreciated that in a film full of grand spectacle.
I’ll be looking forward to seeing a Copley and Brolin confrontation in the film.
*The fact that they went through so many actors reminds me of what I read about Sorcerer as Friedkin went with people who were 5th and even 6th choices for roles in the film. That’s not a knock against that film, as Sorcerer is brilliant and every actor is great in it.
