Back again with a few more morsels of macabre…
Tango Pictures have tapped Ti West (House of the Devil, The Innkeepers) to direct an adaptation of Ben H. Winters’ Bedbugs. The tale revolves around a family of three who move into a seemingly perfect apartment. The wife wakes up every morning with fresh bug bites, while the father and child remain untouched. As the landlord and exterminators turn up nothing, she begins to expect something more sinister is at work. Sounds cool, especially with Ti at the wheel. It’s hard to say when this will happen though. West is currently prepping his original sci-fi thriller, The Side Effects, which stars Liv Tyler. He also has original scripts for a straight thriller and a werewolf tale lying around. Whatever he chooses for his next batch of projects, I’m there.
The wondrous Uwe Boll is getting political again! Dr. Boll is currently shooting Bailout, a revenge tale set against the backdrop of the 2008 financial crisis. Apparently he’s calling it his Taxi Driver. Umm, yeah. The soon-to-be-masterpiece will star Dominic Purcell, Edward Furlong, John Heard, Michael Pare, Natassia Malthe, Clint Howard, and Eric Roberts. Rejoice!
The cast for Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho seems to be filling out nicely. Kurtwood Smith and Wallace Langham have recently been cast as MPAA administrator Geoffrey Shurlock and graphic designer Saul Bass, respectively. They join the previously announced Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, James D’Arcy, Jessica Biel, Danny “I sound more like my father each day” Huston, Michael Wincott, and Toni Collete. Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil) directs.
While the project itself isn’t horror, the pedigree behind it is. AMC has recently snapped up the rights to The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s comic, Thief of Thieves. Sounds like AMC wants to stay in the Kirkman business for the time being, so I expect this to at least make it through one season once it airs.
Fede Alvarez’s remake of The Evil Dead begins shooting tomorrow and is targeted for an April 13, 2013 release. That gives them a year to not fuck it up, so let’s hope for the best. I’d list the cast, but they are all basically unknowns………..which is probably a good thing. Bruce Campbell is still rumored to make a cameo, be it as Ash or someone new. Campbell produces, alongside Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. Alvarez is directing from a script penned by himself, Rodo Sayagues, and Diablo Cody. ‘Tis a Ghost House Pictures production, so let’s hope it’s closer in quality to Drag Me To Hell than most of their other releases.
A documentary is on the way about the lives of Daisy & Violet Hilton, the Siamese twins who appeared in Tod Browning’s Freaks and spent most of the lives on the sideshow circuit. Titled Bound By Flesh, the doc is targeting a 2013 release. Robert Zemeckis is producing, with his wife Leslie directing the piece.
Word is that Supernatural will likely be renewed for an eighth season. No shocker there. At this point, I suspect CW might try to keep it on the air as long as they did their other popular genre show, Smallville. Prepare for more Winchester shenanigans come September.
Gemma Arterton is in talks to star in the English-language remake of 2LDK, currently titled The Wright Girls. Described as a dark comedy, it revolves around a pair of friends/co-stars on a successful TV show who go to violent lengths to beat each other out for a movie role. Andy Fickman (She’s The Man, Race To Witch Mountain) will direct from the script by Bert Royal (Easy A).
Now that the news is out of the way, dig on visual entertainment below…
