I was rather indifferent to the idea of Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company because for the first few years of its existence, it was simply a horror remake factory churning out slick, yet uninspired films that made lots of money and little sense. It appears that the coffers have been filled enough for Bay to branch out slightly, and so along with the upcoming summer epic Transformers, there will be a smaller crime flick called The Horsemen, which actually began production a couple of weeks back.
The flick stars the unlikely combo of Dennis Quaid and Ziyi Zhang in the story of a widower detective who gets involved in a case involving serial killings based on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Now, a host of interesting supporting players have stepped in.
Patrick Fugit, Lou Taylor Pucci, Clifton Collins, Jr. , Barry Shabaka Henley, Neil McDonough and Peter Stormare have all been added to the cast, the first two playing his sons and the rest as Holocaust, Mister Sinister, and….wait a sec. That might not be the right Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
In any case, the film’s is being directed by video maverick Jonas Ackerlund. His feature debut, Spun, was long on style and short on substance. I have no idea why Michael Bay would want this guy to direct a Platinum Dunes film. None whatsoever.
