Man I used to love Broken Lizard. Still like them, but after numerous delays on any semblance of actual content from them and a really ill-advised comedy tour it makes it very hard to hang in there. Hell, even the movie they produced and appeared in [Freeloaders] seems to be lost at sea well over a year after completion. Now they’re all keeping busy with various ventures and one in particular caught my eye: Paul Soter’s latest directorial effort: Dark Circles.
The latest in the AfterDark series, the film’s plot is as follows, courtesy of the official site:
When new parents Alex and Penny retreat from the city and move into a place outside town, the stress and massive sleep-deprivation caused by their infant has both of them seeing things in the house that may or may not exist. Persistent sightings of a strange woman has each of them wondering if they are suffering from hallucinations, or if their new home holds a dark, supernatural presence. As their fragile grasp on reality spirals into delirium, Alex and Penny find themselves nearly helpless to deal with the horrific truth of what is really going in this house.
My hopes aren’t sky high, for even though megawatt stars Jonathan Schaech and Pell James are involved it probably is going to have a very limited release and the plot doesn’t sound all that fresh. But Soter wrote and directed it and it’d be interesting to see his approach to horror. If nothing else, he’s putting his skills out there to direct the next Broken Lizard film, should there be one.
