Martin Scorsese has announced another movie he’d like to make in the coming years: The Last Duel. This will be one of the first films Scorsese will do under his four-year first look deal with Paramount Pictures.
Though at the moment he is only developing The Last Duel, Scorsese is looking to direct it as well.
The film will be based upon Eric Jager’s book The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France. Published in 2004, the book tells the story of the knights Jean de Carrouges and Jacques LeGris. In 1386, they had the last duel santactioned by the French government, under King Charles IV.
I think this is going to be a great project for Marty. We already know he can do period pieces extremely well (pick up Gangs of New York if you don’t believe me). And as much as I liked it, I just hope this doesn’t turn out to be The Departed: 1386.
