Brett Ratner seems to enjoy working on buddy comedies: Rush Hour, Rush Hour 2, X-Men: The Last Stand…the guy can’t seem to get enough of them! Hell, he’s even in the middle of filming Rush Hour 3 right now.
So, it should come as no surprise to any one that he signed on to yet ANOTHER buddy comedy, only this time on the other side of the law.
This untitled heist film is set to be a vehicle for both Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock. The story is about two janitors at the Trump Towers who plan to rob some of its rich tenants. Russell Gewirtz, who wrote the fantastic Inside Man, is going to write.
This is a mixed bag for me. I don’t really like what Ratner did with X-Men, but I did sort of enjoy the Rush Hour films. At least, I enjoyed them the first time I saw them (they seemed less funny after that). But I do like the pairing of Murphy and Rock…it just seems like it’s a sure fire win to me with those two together. However, if someone could fuck it up, it would be Ratner. Only time will tell.
