I’m one of the very few people who saw The Thing prequel and didn’t just like it, but LOVED it. Madness, I know. It just hit a lot of right notes for me, and while it was nowhere near the level of Carpenter’s masterpiece, it was still (at least to me) not the steaming pile others made it out to be. That Youtube video of the men of Outpost 31 watching the prequel was worth a cheap laugh though.
One of the big marks against it for some was that it was promised to have plenty of practical effects, and in the end a large amount of it was done with CGI. Now, there’s a video making the rounds that shows that there really was practical effects in it to begin with, and they look REALLY good.
