I’m going to keep the “reviews” on this one short and (hopefully) sweet. I’ve been buckling down a lot lately and plan on the next update being a fairly big one. The plan is to have the next one up BEFORE Christmas and then another right after New Year’s.
As we enter 2012, I’m going to do my best to keep this sucker going strong. Obviously I’ll be switching to a 2012 list at some point in January, but I’ll do my best to update this one from time to time as well. Despite the fact that I’m writing for the main site now, I refuse to let my blog fall by the wayside! Anyway…
The Muppets – Absolutely fan-fucking-tastic. ‘Nuff said.
Machete Maidens Unleashed! – While probably not as well-constructed as its predecessor (Not Quite Hollywood), I found it just as fun. My wallet is definitely going to be hurting after all the Corman flick I caught clips of that I want to pick up now………a soon-to-be-bad-habit which the wonderful Shout! Factory will help facilitate.
Super 8 – While no classic, I loved the hell out of this. The acting was great from top to bottom, which helped make up for some storytelling deficiencies.
The Help – I was over at my father’s house the other day and ended up catching this one with my Dad and brother. I expected a decent little drama and was unexpectedly surprised. I had a lot of fun with this one.
Horrible Bosses – Pretty solid comedy, but nothing too special.
The Change-Up – Same as above for the most part. I actually think I probably enjoyed this more than I should have due to the simple fact that I will soon be in Bateman’s shoes. We have a 10 month old son and another baby on the way, so I probably laughed more than I should have at some of the jokes/scenarios. Honestly, this is an Adam Sandler comedy dressed up with better actors. This easily could have starred Kevin James in the Bateman role and Sandler in the Reynolds one. It just goes to show you how much some actors can elevate the material they are given.
The updated list is below. As usual a few films have shifted spots.
