George A Romero has found his next project, and while it’s about the dead, it’s not about the Dead. The movie is called Solitary Isle, and it’s based on a short story by Suzuki Koji, the guy who wrote the original stories for The Ring and Dark Water.
Solitary Isle, according to a review of Koji’s Dark Water story collection on Amazon, “doesn’t fit into horror/mystery genre. It deals with a burned out teacher, Kensuke Suehiro, who receives a surprising call from his mentor on whether he is up for an expedition to a ghost island, where there is an ecological site dubbed Battery No. 6. That leads to reminiscing over Toshihiro Aso and a strange girl he mistreats, Yukari Nakazawa, who vanished due to the machinations of Aso.” Oh shocker, Koji doing a story about a young girl’s ghost?
The film is being financed by Hyde Park Entertainment and Kadokawa Pictures in a 50/50 arrangement they have for movies under 25 million dollars. The movie may likely be released by Fox, since they have a first look deal with Hyde Park. Romero will be writing the adaptation as well as directing the movie.
