It seems Sylvester Stallone has another film already set up after the sure-to-be-mega-blockbuster that is The Expendables 2 wraps up. This time around he’s going to be in prison. Prison is familiar movie territory for Stallone.
In 1989, he was in 2 films that had him being sent to prison. The first was a movie that is much hated by my B-Movie Column colleague, Mike Flynn. I’m talking about Lock Up. The movie that had John Amos in glasses that probably ended up in Eldon Tyrell’s hands in the future, and Donald Sutherland being a despicable bastard. Plus Sonny Landham as a guy named “Chink”. It’s not an amazing film, but worth checking out, if only for Sutherland over-acting and trying to push Frank Leone (Stallone) over the edge.
The other is Tango & Cash. Quite possibly one of the greatest action films of all time. Stallone and Kurt Russell get sent into prison for a brief period, tortured by Brion James, Jack Palance, and Stallone fights with Robert Z’Dar. SEE IT.
Sorry for going off the reins there, but Stallone’s follow up to The Expendables 2 is called The Tomb. Here’s the plot:
…in the movie Stallone will play Ray Breslin, a structural security expert who specializes in prisons. One day he is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and is (here comes the irony) thrown in a jail that he designed. In order to prove his innocence, he must find the person that set him up.
Sure, it’s not original at all, but I’m sure there’s going to be plenty of action in it. Maybe they can get some of the cast of OZ to show up. I know I really would like to see Lee Tergesen back on the big screen. His small role in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning wasn’t enough. Maybe they could even get Patrick Kilpatrick to play a variant of The Sandman from Death Warrant. That would own.
Looking forward to seeing Stallone taking over the prison he designed and finding out who framed him. If only this could be the sequel to Lock-Up and it could be called Franke Leone.
