Lucky McKee’s (May, The Woods) new film, The Woman, generated some buzz at Sundance this year when this video hit the airwebs…

That guy should just be happy he didn’t attend a screening of A Serbian Film.

The Woman is an adaptation of a novel by horror writer Jack Ketchum, and is actually a sequel to a fairly lousy movie called Offspring (which also features Pollyanna McIntosh, the titular woman, in the same role). Fortunately this is merely a factoid. You don’t need to sit through Offspring to see The Woman, which – for all its disturbing moments – is a very good and very fun film. The Woman tells the tale of a seemingly normal family man, Chris Cleek (excellently played by Sean Bridgers), who comes into contact with a feral woman living in the woods while hunting near his isolated country home. Cleek decides to help this unfortunate soul. Although his idea of “help” is a bit unorthodox, leading to the most messed up remake of My Fair Lady you’ll ever see.

The film opens in theaters Oct. 14. But if you live in Los Angeles, you can see it this Friday at 10pm at The Cinefamily, where I’ll be grilling Lucky McKee in person after the film for a Q&A! And since you’re CHUD readers, I’m also giving you and a friend/date/hooker a chance to see the film for FREEEE! All you gotta do is send an email to wormmiller@gmail.com with THE WOMAN in the subject line and tell me which movie disturbed you the most recently.
