After endless waffling on what to do with the classic muscular sword-swinger, Warner Bros. has apparently decided to reboot Conan the Barbarian, and I’m not talking about giving him snazzy new fur footwear.

The studio has handed the head-lopping Crom-worshiper to Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans), who’ll write and possibly direct a “new take” on the character that hews closer to creator Robert E. Howard’s original vision. The studio wants to get the slaughter started early next year to take advantage of the character’s recent resurgence thanks to popular comic books.

One can assume that everyone previously associated with a new Conan movie (the Wachowski brothers, John Milius, Robert Rodriguez, Triple H, the loincloth-clad governor himself Arnold Schwarzenegger, and of course, Mako) will now be crushed, the lamentations of their women heard.

Yakin has previous experience with modified versions of established characters – he was originally attached to the now defunct Batman Beyond feature.
