Mel Gibson is apparently shifting his focus completely away from acting and concentrating on work behind the camera. He’s already shown us every single moment (or what felt like it anyway) of the beating of the Jesus, and now he’s pulling back the curtain on the lost society of the Mayans, even though we already know it had something to do with a rite of passage involving the Predators and some xenomorphs.
Mel’s Apocalypto, which stars absolutely no one of consequence, is "a heart stopping mythic action-adventure set against the turbulent end times of the once great Mayan civilization. When his idyllic existence is brutally disrupted by a violent invading force, a man is taken on a perilous journey to a world ruled by fear and oppression where a harrowing end awaits him. Through a twist of fate and spurred by the power of his love for his woman and his family he will make a desperate break to return home and to ultimately save his way of life."
The tagline is "No One Can Outrun Their Destiny." Obviously this guy knows it too, because he looks like he’s barely breaking a sweat at that leisurely pace. Maybe it should be something like "Sometimes Destiny Is Only About 20 Yards Behind You", but that’s not catchy at all. I suck at marketing.
