Well, the good news is that it is thermodynamically impossible for Cameron Crowe to have made the worst zoo-related film of this year. Beyond that I can’t even begin to guess how good We Bought A Zoo will actually be, even if I can predict that it will be one of the most decidedly heart-warming, “awww” filled films of the year.
Cameron Crowe simply doesn’t make the kind of films that I care about intensely, but between Matt Damon’s earnest warmth (can’t wait to read the post-Contagion continuity theories, or maybe a decent YT mashup), the animals, the little girl, and the Petty music this will certainly cater to a large, mainstream fanbase. This could be a big awards upset kind of film, if the big audiences latch on and the Academy is in a pandering mood. It reads to me like a big, white-people fairytale version of Pursuit of Happyness.
Take a look (or check it out in HD QT via Apple)…
Yeah, a few too many overwrought moments of quirk for my taste. Doesn’t look like an unpleasant watch though, if purely by virtue of Damon. But isn’t it weird that those pictures of Scarlett Johansson sans clothes leaked today (the NSFW discussion on the boards)? How the internet turns…
So tweet your thoughts, comment your comments, or voice your opinions on the boards… Think Crowe’s made something warm and fun, or too rich for your taste?
