At Disney’s D23 Expo today, the existence of two forthcoming Pixar films was revealed– one for holiday 2013, and the other for a possible summer 2014 release. The first (The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs) is to be directed by Bob Peterson (he voiced the dog Doug in Up as well as being co-director) and is going to be about dinosaurs, imagining a world in which an asteroid never hit the Gulf of Mexico and they were never made extinct, having coexisted with humans for many years. A photo from several years ago, which was related to Up, most assuredly alluded to this. Even less is known about the second film (The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind) but it might be helmed by Pete Docter and will be unlike anything Pixar has ever done, apparently, taking us inside our own minds and telling us why we can’t get certain things out of our head. Hopefully it explains why Cars or Cars 2 exists. Alright, maybe not. Still sounds very interesting.
This of course means that we’ll see Monsters University as well as the dinosaur project both in 2013, a rarity for Pixar which never releases two films in a year. That’s perfectly fine by me, as I’m sure it will be for many of you.
