I’ll admit it – I sometimes buy the New York Times just for the crossword puzzle. Will Shortz, the editor of the puzzle, is like some kind of mysterious demigod to me, and I’m excited that the new documentary Wordplay will be bringing us into the world of crossword puzzle creators and fans. Some of the fans, by the way, include Bill Clinton, Bob Dole, Jon Stewart and Ken Burns.
So here’s the exclusive premiere of the poster for the film, which has been a hit on the festival circuit, including Sundance, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury prize. Wordplay hits in limited release this June.
While you’re waiting for this movie to come out, I recommend renting Word Wars, a phenomenal documentary about professional Scrabble players from two years. As for me, I’ll be trying to crack the Thursday puzzle – that’s about as far into the week as I can make it.
