Americans sure do love their crass humor and contrived parodies, using their hard-earned cash to guarantee that more discerning audiences will eventually have a fifth entry in the Scary Movie series to avoid. Meanwhile, it appears Disney jumped the gun with the contemporary CG-animated animlas of The Wild, when the kiddies’ attention span was still recovering from the prehistoric wanderers of the Ice Age sequel.
The tobacco satire Thank You for Smoking made the biggest jump into the big time this week, while limited releases of Hard Candy and The Notorious Bettie Page brought solid per-screen figures.
Next week features an interesting mix of new flicks: the Michael Douglas White House thriller The Sentinel, the spooky videogame adaptation Silent Hill, and the first mix of political comedy and reality shows, American Dreamz.
