Samuel L Jackson continues to indiscriminately sign on to projects, the latest being an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story 1408, itself an adaptation of a section of his book The Shining. Jackson seems to just sign whatever contract is on the top of his pile these days, and he’s working harder than a man who has leg-breaking Mafia collectors on his trail, shooting at least 3 movies in 2006.
I don’t know what role Jackson plays, but the story has John Cusack as a debunker of the paranormal who checks into the notorious Room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel, where he discovers real terror. Between this and that Buick 8 novel, it seems like King just revisits old story concepts with new characters. Essentially he’s remaking his own work.
1408 is being directed by Mikael Håfström, whose Derailed was one of the worst films I have ever seen, and that’s even after giving it points for raping Jennifer Aniston (Spoiler! Points removed when it’s revealed the rape is a fake). The film starts shooting this summer.
