I don’t know if I’d consider V for Vendetta the "dangerous" movie that some have labeled it, but even if it is, audiences were looking for a little danger this weekend. More than, say, a broad romcom or a hairy former TV sitcom star, at least. Anyway, the Wachowskis’ latest movie (let’s call it what it is) blew up the box office with a solid $26 million, but we’ll see how word of mouth carries it.
Amanda Bynes is still taking shots with the teen comedies, but I guess not many girls/pervs wanted to see her as a him in She’s the Man. Or they just stayed home and rented Just One of the Guys. It was still more enticing than Vin Diesel with hair — his courtroom dramedy Find Me Guilty got handed a verdict of Bomb with a bleak $600k opening. Time to break out the night-vision eyes again!
Next week has Spike Lee’s cops-and-robbers movie Inside Man going against the killer videogame flick Stay Alive, and if you’re a complete idiot there’s also a new Larry the Cable Guy movie for some unholy reason.
