The Walking Dead is already out on dvd and blu-ray, but when has a little thing like a previous release stopped Anchor Bay from releasing another? They’e lined up new special editions of the first season for release this October, just in time for the second season.
Normally there wouldn’t be any reason for this article, but there’s one big extra that’s sure to be of interest to fans- a brand new version of the pilot episode of the show. You know, that incredible hour and a half of television that was sadly not beaten by anything later on in the season? It’s getting a black and white transfer. Frank Darabont fans of know that his last film The Mist is not only best seen in black and white, it should only be seen that way. The lack of color only added to the atmosphere of the film, the loneliness, the sense that something alien is going on… and it also helped hide some of the iffier special effects. The Walking Dead definitely didn’t have a problem with its effects but considering how emotional things got in the pilot it’s curious to think about what the experience will feel like.
Along with the regular blu-ray release there will also be a limited edition tin that comes with a wearable zombie mask from NECA designed by none other than Greg Nicotero.
Here’s exactly what you’ll get with each release. Each version comes with the previous features:
The Making of The Walking Dead
Inside The Walking Dead: Episodes 1 – 6
A Sneak Peek with Robert Kirkman
Behind The Scenes Zombie Make-Up Tips
