Good, if not unexpected news – Gary Oldman and David Thewlis are returning for the fifth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I have to admit to being a touch concerned, since it has always seemed like the producers were a touch lackadaisical in regards to signing their supporting actors to multiple movies. When I interviewed Ralph Fiennes, who debuted as Lord Voldemort in the last film, he said that he didn’t know if he would be back for the rest of the films in the series.
Voldemort will be back in 5, playing a big role, so I hope we see Fiennes. But these other two have large roles as well, especially Oldman’s Sirius Black. Oh, the role Sirius Black will have to play! Readers of the book know what I’m talking about, and we’re all excited to see how this will be done on film. Goblet of Fire really opened the series up in terms of scope and emotion, but Phoenix is, to use a phrase that I as a New York City hip guy with much street cred often use, off the hook, son.
