David Cronenberg, cruelly snubbed in the Oscar nominations in favor of a man named for blood sausage, has finally decided on his next project, and it’s going to be Bruce Wagner’s Maps to the Stars.

The Canuck auteur has been trying to figure out what the hell he would film after A History of Violence for some time now, and it had come down to either Martin Amis’ London Fields or this original Wagner screenplay about a child TV star on smack. Wagner won out, and Maps will be the first film Cronenberg shoots on American soil.

"You could say it’s a Hollywood film because the characters are agents, actors and managers, but it is not a satire like ‘The Player,’ " Cronenberg said of the darkly comic story. "Bruce is brilliant about writing characters in this world, and I’d wanted to do something with him for ages."
