I was introduced to Almodovar through his last couple of films (Volver, Broken Embraces) which I loved, and excited me about digging through his entire unique catalogue. It’s always a fine thing to dig into a director’s work that goes back decades while the artist is still working and still very vital. And by the look of it, Almodovar hasn’t lost an ounce of energy as this trailer for his newest film The Skin I Live In is as odd and evocative as you would expect.
Take a look…
Antonio Banderas rejoins the director for the first time in decades, along with Elena Anaya for a tale of revenge and… plastic surgery. I can imagine this goes weird places. The film is an adaptation of the novel Mygale by Thierry Jonquet, published in 2003 (the title means “tarantula”). There are also some obvious Eyes Without Faces vibes emanating off of it, and they’re definitely strong in the actual film if the Cannes reviews are anything to go by. The word is that the film crosses genres and breaches into full-on horror, and that it’s energetic and frenetic (or “confused” if you’re less kind).
The film has a limited release in the states on November 18th.
