Today I had a chance to interview Sir Anthony Hopkins about his new film, The World’s Fastest Indian, based on the true story of Kiwi motorbiker Burt Munro. At one point the conversation turned to why he got into acting and he revealed his deep hatred for Dave Davis: I became an actor because I didn’t know what else to do. Academically I wasn’t good. I was maybe slow or different. I remember kids who could understand math. We had one guy in school, he was like a genius. I don’t know what happened to him. He might have ended up driving a truck. But in school he was a good student. David Davis his name was, and he was amazing. I hated him because he never needed homework, he just got it every time.
He also talked about Young Hannibal, the prequel to Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon. It had been reported that he would be narrating the movie. Not true, he told me.
“That’s just a rumor,” he said. He also said that he had put Hannibal behind him forever, and I have to say that’s the right idea.
Look for the full interview next week.
