It looks like Sam Raimi has done his time in the world of Peter Parker and will soon be moving on to a new world – Disc World.
The fan fave director has signed on to adapt Terry Pratchett’s Wee Free Men, part of his kid’s book series of Disc World novels. I have never read one of these books, so the most I can tell you about this one is what Variety tells me: A 9-year-old farm girl heads off to a parallel world to retrieve a brother who has been grabbed by a nasty fairy queen. She battles the monsters of Fairyland with the help of 6-inch-tall blue-faced rowdies who wear kilts, speak in thick Scottish brogues, steal sheep and drink heavily.
Does this mean Raimi won’t be back for Spider-Man 4? Not necessarily, just that three films in a row is a lot for any imaginative director, I would assume. Of course, I don’t actually think he would be back for Spidey 4 no matter what.
Wee Free Men is set up at Sony and is being conceived as a large scale live action film. The script is being written by Pamela Pettler, who wrote Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride.
