Just a heads up that, while we’re sure you’re going to be checking out Super 8 this weekend, if you get the chance, there’s a new indie film titled Viva Riva! that’s also opening today in limited release from Music Box. We’ve given a fair amount of coverage to it over at GUY over the last few weeks, including my review, which just ran today (here). I’m happy to spread the word one last time, because it’s a great movie and the first film of note to come out of Congo of all places in some 20 years. And they’re looking to be able to boost the film community in that country in the future.
I had the chance to speak with director, Djo Tunda Wa Munga (here). Cool guy, and he has a good knowledge of gents like Akira Kurosawa and Sergio Leone, which he said inspired this film.
We also did a Guy’s Best Gal piece on star Manie Malone who, if the film gods are good to us, will be making some appearances in American films in the future.
Finally, you can check out the film’s trailer here at CHUD.
