I kind of dig that the marketing for Fincher’s Girl With The Dragon Tattoo film seems to be tackling the unavoidable sexualized little punk girl / daddy issue subtext head on. Your primary goal can’t be to downplay that shit with a poster like this…

It’s a mistake to pull too much from marketing but this is sure to be a top-notch campaign and does nice job of getting me interested in a franchise that I most assuredly wasn’t. I like Rooney Mara’s look here- it has the haphazard look of an actual punk chick who accumulated the piercings and tattoos naturally, rather than the over-designed movie punk look. She looks scarred- not ready to hit the stage and do a set for MTV. It’s also cool to see Daniel Craig looking so grizzled- but then again this is an awfully high-contrast image.

Note: This is of course the international poster, with the stateside poster being ever so slightly tamer, but essentially the same. These days though, they’ll both get equal trade in the online places we see them the most- don’t expect tit in your local American cineplex of course…

This poster is classy, we know the trailer is amazing, we know Fincher’s ability to take decent source material and make it great is at peak proficiency, and we know that our small taste of Reznor’s new score is immaculate…

…so be excited for “the feel bad movie of Christmas.”
