Hey there Los Angeles Fright fans!

Time for another Friday Night Frights (like us on Facebook!) screening and another CHUD tickets giveaway! Now, several weeks ago I was raving and slobbering over a “little” Japanese movie called Love Exposure (my review) that was playing at the Cinefamily theater. So pleased was the Cinefamily with how things went they decided to fly in director Sion Sono for an entire weekend retrospective. This is good news for those who didn’t get a chance to see Love Exposure, as you’ll get another chance this Saturday — now with the director their to explain his madness to you. Since Sion was going to be hanging around all weekend anyway, Sebastian O’Brien and I couldn’t resist showing his gonzo J-horror flick, Hair Extensions. Which Sion will be on hand to talk about too!

Quoth the FNF blurb of power:

Sion Sono takes body horror to a whole new richly-lathered, sleek and shiny level with Exte (aka Hair Extensions), his unique blend of genre fireworks, trippy setpieces, left-field nutjob characters and intense melodrama. Kill Bill/Battle Royale star Chiaki Kuriyama plays an apprentice hairdresser who has to contend with being suddenly saddled with her loser half-sister’s young daughter, and with running afoul of a whacked-out morgue attendant who’s harvesting endless reams of freshly-grown demon hair from a magical corpse! Sono deftly walks the tightrope between hard-hitting, truly sad family histrionics and a giddy Peter Jackson-esque comedic horror tone, giving us a bounty of indelible and seriously squirmy moments wrapped within one of his trademark unpredictable packages.
