The Superhero genre is really transforming into something different this year as the $200m blockbusters start traveling into the cosmos and period environments, and the independent scene starts reinterpreting the idea of a superhero on a much more intimate level. In fact, at the same time James Gunn was starting the ball rolling on his gritty, street-level superhero flick Super at SXSW, the Trost siblings were getting attention for their bizarre, potentially brilliant film The FP, about life-or-death DDR tournaments in a vaguely post-apocalyptic world. Following up that slice of craziness, Jason Trost already has a new film called VS ready to go- he’s the writer, director, and star.

The synopsis is simple…

“Four Super Heroes find themselves abducted by their Arch Nemesis and are forced to compete in a series of challenges in order to save an abandoned town full of kidnapped innocent civilians.”
…but if The FP and this trailer give you any hint, there’s an utterly unique film in store.
VS looks to be the same kind of low-budget, DIY-style production as The FP, which also means it boasts an incredible eye for detail, texture, and tone. The trailer is too minimal to get a full idea what the film is like, but it will clearly involve some craziness. I mean, once again…

I have a feeling the guys are just trying to get the film out there right now and get attention, so let people know if you like the trailer, and keep up to date with the film’s Facebook Page right here. You can follow Jason Trost on twitter as well- but do bear in mind that he keeps it real as shit.
