Here’s a trend I like – playing extended cuts of movies in theaters to advertise DVD releases. It’s a fun chance to see a film in its natural setting one last time, and who doesn’t love director’s cuts? That’s a rhetorical question, since some director’s cuts are just too damn long. I can’t even imagine sitting in a theater for a longer version of King Kong, for instance, or The New World.
But Kingdom of Heaven? Why not. I still haven’t seen the original version (so shoot me. Fox is bad at inviting me to screenings), and I have been waiting to get a longer, meatier version on DVD. Sadly, I won’t be able to see this director’s cut in a theater, but if you live in the LA environs, you can. For the next two weeks it’ll be playing at the Laemmle Fairfax 3, on Beverly Boulevard. Oh well. I’ll wait on the DVD – I have it on good authority it’ll be pretty great.
