UPDATE: Thanks. That wasn’t so hard, was it?
Happy Holidays whether you be Jewish, Christian, Muslim, or whether you celebrate Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, or Black Peter’s Gonna Get Ya. Just so long you Chew, you’re getting nothing but love from me.
That said…
If you are going to see one movie this long weekend, I’d say to see Munich. It’s the best movie of the year. But if you are faced with the choice between King Kong and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe…
Do me a favor.
Please see Kong. First of all, it’s a better film. A much better film. Especially the second time. I really appreciated the work of the human performers a lot more the second time. Secondly, Peter Jackson is a visionary guy and we want him making movies unmolested for as long as his rapidy shrinking manframe will allow for it. Narnia is like a CD-ROM intro to a better film, one that loses any sense of richness it could have had once the kids hop through the closet. It’s low risk for families, sure. There’s not a moment of danger in the whole thing. Kong is meaner and longer (quit complaining, people), but it’s a MOVIE. An honest to God thrill to watch and though both are period pieces Jackson’s film is old school and almost timeless.
Like the holidays.
Come on, people. If I see Narnia with a better weekend box office take come Monday I’m holding you responsible.
