“The jury is still out on science.”
– Gob Bluth, Arrested Development
Does the fact that we live in a world where Hurricane Epsilon is hanging out in the Atlantic make you worried? It freaks me the fuck out. We live in extreme times, and many of the predictions that environmentalists made in the 70s and 80s about global warming are coming direly true.
But don’t worry about it – Leonardo DiCaprio is here to save us all.
Leo is producing, co-writing and narrating (what the hell – I thought Morgan Freeman was contractually obligated to get first dibs on all narration!) a feature length documentary called The 11th Hour, which will offer solutions on how to save the planet. I hope that the first solution is having Wyld Stallyns play a kick-ass show.
"Global warming is not only the No. 1 environmental challenge we face today, but one of the most important issues facing all of humanity," DiCaprio says. "We all have to do our part to raise awareness about global warming and the problems we as a people face in promoting a sustainable environmental future for our planet."
About the only thing better than having a Hollywood star offer you solutions to save the planet is to have those solutions financed by a professional poker player, and this film sure has that. Doyle Brunson will be co-producing with Leo.
I kid about the whole Hollywood star thing, but it is cool for Leo to put his money where his mouth is. Just because he’s been a teeny bopper heartthrob doesn’t make his thoughts on this issue any less valid, especially if he’s taking the time to back them up with science, as opposed to the anti-global warming folks. They seem to only be able to find science that backs them up when it’s paid for by polluting corporations. How weird is that?
And in the meantime, I eagerly await Republicans whining about liberal Hollywood actors mouthing off. See, I particularly love that because these people elected actors as governors of California and President of the United States. Now, I know that Leo has not yet worked alongside a monkey or Tom Arnold (redundant?), but I think there may be other things that qualify one to speak out about issues. Like the First Amendment.
