Mark Duplass may still be hovering at the lower strata of the entertainment industry, but the man has been quite busy and fairly successful. He and his brother Jay were the best part of the mumblecore indie scene, producing The Puffy Chair and the fantastic Baghead, before graduating to the bigger leagues with last year’s wonderful Cyrus. He’s also been rising in the ranks as an actor, from mumblecore films like Hannah Takes the Stairs to the cult cable series The League, which also happens to co-star his wife, Katie Aselton, who is quite the indie double-threat herself, having directed last year’s The Freebie. And now FirstShowing is reporting that the indie power couple is teaming up for a feature film collaboration, Black Rock.

Written by Duplass and to be directed by Aselton, the film is set to star Kate Bosworth and Lake Bell in the story of three childhood friends who embark on a weekend getaway to the isolated island of Black Rock, only to discover that they are not alone. Dun dun dunnnn! In a press release Aselton said: “I grew up watching classic suspense films and have long had the idea of making a girl-based thriller where the threat to the characters is very real, and the audience is left with the terrifying thought ‘this could happen to me.’ Exploring that kind of movie excites me as a filmmaker.” The producers of the film have started a Kickstarter campaign in order to crowd-source a portion of funding for the film, so if you feel like getting involved, that’s where ya do it. Though, if you have several thousand dollars to part with, I suggest you send it to me. I promise to spend it all on booze and gourmet nachos.
