Nice, America. You’ve cost Keanu Reeves a job.
The actor was going to be playing Sinbad the Sailor in a new movie directed by Rob Cohen, but Sony has shitcanned the film because of the box office performance of Cohen’s last film, the sublime nonsense thriller Stealth.
"It didn’t seem like a good idea for us to make that movie after ‘Stealth,’ " Sony’s head of motion pictures, Amy Pascal told the Los Angeles Times.
The article is actually a very good read in general. Sony’s having a tough year, and Pascal is blaming it on the movies themselves, which is interesting if still a step from taking the blame. There’s an interesting examination of the new Jim Carrey movie, Fun With Dick and Jane, which has been incredibly troubled and may yet be the studio’s biggest disaster. Click here to read it.
It’s sad to see Cohen thrown into Director Jail over what I think may be his most enjoyable film (he also directed xXx and The Fast and the Furious). But Hollywood’s fickle like that, and if you can’t make a hit film out of Jamie Foxx slamming into a cliff in amazing slomo, maybe you should be put away.
