When I watched Tim Burton’s questionable overhaul of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last weekend (review HERE), a couple of the spoiled adolescents struck me as having burgeoning star potential.
It looks like bratty little Veruca Salt will settle for second place, as karate-kicking champion gum-chewer Violet Beauregarde is winning the race. AnnaSophia Robb will star in Disney’s Bridge to Terabithia, based on author Katherine Paterson’s award-winning children’s book that I never read as a kid because I was probably too busy watching Black Belt Theater and Creature Double Feature and Star Blazers.
The story follows a young small-town boy who befriends the new girl in class, and together they create an imaginary realm where they battle the pretend monsters of their magical land. Sounds like fun! But wait, apparently there’s also tragic death involved. Bring the family!
Robb, who’ll no doubt blossom into a future object of affection for many (while others can’t be bothered waiting), already has the dog movie Because of Winn-Dixie on her early list of credits, and is currently working with Hilary Swank on the supernatural thriller The Reaping. Doesn’t anyone just go to school anymore?
