Masters of Horror
is the new show that’s making me consider getting Showtime. It’s a
simple, but great concept – get together the best horror directors,
give them a budget and one hour to tell a story where they don’t have
to worry about the MPAA and all that jazz, and see what happens.
The
show starts running Friday, October 28th, but as of today you can buy
the soundtrack in stores, and that’s what this contest is all about
(and if you are going to buy the soundtrack, help CHUD and do it
through us by clicking here!).
No, we’re not giving away the soundtrack – that
would be too easy. We’re giving away a very limited edition Masters of
Horror branded Sony PSP to one lucky winner. Take a look at it:
Cool, huh? Let’s talk about this soundtrack:
Comprised
of music from big-name artists such as Mudvayne, System of a Down,
Andrew WK and Buckethead featuring Serj Tankian, the Masters of Horror
soundtrack is a fitting companion to the upcoming bone-chilling
Showtime series. The accompanying Masters of Horror soundtrack is a
dual-disc set of new and previously unreleased material from over 25
top rock, metal and punk artists including the aforementioned bands
plus Norma Jean, Mastodon, Shadows Fall, Alkaline Trio, From Autumn to
Ashes, Funeral for a Friend, Thursday, Rise Against, Bear vs. Shark and
a host of others.
The
Masters of Horror series, created by the twisted mind of top horror
television director Mick Garris (The Stand, Tales from the Crypt),
gathers the greatest minds of the genre in one place for a thirteen
week roller-coaster ride of frightful fodder. Well-known directors like
John Carpenter (Halloween, Vampires), George Romero (Night of the
Living Dead, Land of the Dead) and Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw
Massacre, Poltergeist) each created a one hour episode to air beginning
in October on the Showtime network.
Garris
explains the melding of hard-hitting music and moving images best by
stating, “Horror is to cinema what rock n’ roll is to music:
rebellious, transgressive, loud and abrasive. The sound in horror is
every bit as important as the vision. Horror can be quiet and sneak up
on you, and just give you a chill. Or it can grab you by the throat and
rip out your trachea. We hope to embrace the full range on the Masters
of Horror soundtrack.”
