Tacky headline, I know. I have to have fun somehow, especially considering the horror that is at the heart of Life of Pi.
Horror that Tobey Maguire will now be part of! Hooray! According to Variety, Maguire has reunited with Ang Lee for his adaptation of Yann Martel’s Life of Pi.
Maguire’s role actually signifies a slight departure from the original story. I haven’t read the book, but from what I understand, it all takes place in Pi’s youth. He tells his terrifying story to the Japanese officials who rescue him. The film instead follows an adult Pi, who tells his life changing story to a journalist, played by Maguire.
Suraj Shama plays the child Pi, Irrfan Khan plays the adult. Gerard Depardieu, Adil Hussain and Bollywood actress Tabu also costar. And it’s in 3D. Because you’ve always wanted to see a zebra slowly consumed while still living in 3D.
That’s not a spoiler, by the way. If a tiger is on a boat with a zebra, you can guess what happens. What it all means is something else. And I’m not at all sure how even the likes of Ang Lee will film it.
