This doesn’t make me happy. Freeze Dried Movies, the first site to reveal the identities of Spider-Man 3’s villains (since confirmed), has a new scoop – and it’s ugly.
Ugly as in, the costumes for Venom and Hobgoblin are ugly. “The first problem is with Venom’s costume, which Spiderman wears first. Instead of being pure black, they took a bit from the comic and gave it a disgusting purple tint. In the comic the reason for the tint was to Venom stood out in the shadows, but in film there’s no reason for this.”
Whoa, back that up for a minute. It looks like the scooper also confirms that Spidey is going to have the old black suit first. That’s fairly interesting news, as it gives us a little bit of a hint as to how the origin of Venom will work – at the very least it will be somewhat faithful to the original or Ultimate or cartoon version. Some people had been speculating that Spidey would never get the black costume in the film, for purposes of streamlining the story.
Freeze Dried Movies has more on the costumes, so be sure to visit there. This isn’t the first bad thing I’ve heard about the film, and frankly I’m starting to get a little worried. Could it be that Raimi can’t go 3 for 3? It’s early yet, and the beginning stages of Spider-Man 2 were pretty turbulent as well. Here’s to hoping the behind the scenes issues – especially this shitty sounding costume business – clears itself up. Remember, the costumes don’t really suck until we’re seeing them onscreen.
Hope Sam don’t fuck it up on our message board!
