I’m very excited for the final Harry Potter, and while it was definitely a flawed affair, I think the the penultimate film promised a strong conclusion to the series. It will have been over four years since the books ended when the first Deathly Hallows Part 2 screening rolls credits, and yet it feels to me like the fever for the franchise hasn’t waned, and the same bated breath exists for its visually realized conclusion as did for the literary finish. As much as Twilight and other retarded Potter replacements have flooded the market, none of them have simultaneously touched so many people across every gender, age, sexual orientation, or reading interest-level. This is it- the big one, and the attendance will reflect it. A juggernaut is approaching ladies and gentlemen.
Ultimately we’ll all be sitting down to see Potter and Voldemort reconcile the paradox raised by the book’s prophecy, which states that their mutual existence is unsustainable, and one will ultimately destroy the other. This poster, released by the 20 million fans-strong Facebook page, is a clear acknowledgment of what matters going into Part II of Deathly Hallows. It’s got some super serous-face looks being exchanged between Hero and Villain, though I detect the faintest trace of a spark (giant, bumpy Elder Phallus notwithstanding). In another universe perhaps… Anyway, expect any more imagery to amp the drama and finality of the film- a tone they struck with the dual Hallows poster to the right many months ago.
Weird that I’ve been re-watching The Sopranos lately, and am just reaching the sixth season. Once I re-watch that finale and then see this film a bit later, it’ll be like reliving 2007 all over again.
