The 1980s were an interesting era for horror film, one that many look back on with fond memories. Absolutely some of the most iconic characters of the genre came out of that time. And then there were also those lesser-known flicks like The Dorm That Dripped Blood.

Courtesy of Synapse Films, the extended director’s cut of the film – which was titled Death Dorm – is getting the Blu-ray treatment, which contains never-before-seen footage including alternate scenes, longer gore sequences, and a remixed score. While it was made in 1982, the new cover art harkens back to classic horror flicks from the 50s and 60s. All of this was made possible by the unearthing of the only existing 35mm answer print of the film, which was thought to have been lost three decades ago.

And, as if the title didn’t give you a decent enough idea of what it’s all about:

On the eve of Christmas vacation, a college dormitory stands condemned, the dark halls now vacant… and unsafe. Co-ed Joanne Murray and her close friends volunteer to help close down the building, unaware a psychopathic lunatic hides in the shadows. As the students disappear one by one, Joanne discovers the horrifying reality that if she is to survive, she will have to find a way to slay the brutal murderer… alone.

The Dorm That Dripped Blood comes in 1080p widescreen, with audio commentary with directors Jeffrey Obrow and Stephen Carpenter, interviews with the composer and make-up FX artist, original trailers, and more. Plus it stars a young Daphne (The Fly II) Zuniga.
