Around these parts we’ve rightfully heaped gobs of praise on British director Edgar Wright for his sitcom Spaced and what I can only call a modern classic, Shaun of the Dead, so naturally we’re always interested to see what else that cat has cookin’.
Now Wright and writer Mike White (that was weird to write) are planning to adapt humorist Jon Ronson’s hit UK book Them: Adventures with Extremists, which (as you can probably derive from the title) looks into the world of various fringe-dwelling theorists and activists. White previously penned and co-starred in School of Rock with chubby chum Jack Black, who’s also producing Them through their production company (which, unbelievably, is called Black and White).
I admit when I first saw Wright was attached to a movie called Them, I was really hoping for a remake of the giant mutant ant flick from the 1950s, but I’ll take whatever we can get. Edgar is also working on bringing the graphic novel Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life to… life, and was recently linked to an Ant-Man feature film for Marvel (which I’m told is a possibility but in very premature stages). Great to see a fellow geek making good in the biz, eh? And fear not, fans of Shaun – according to my sources, Wright will indeed soon reunite with cohorts Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for the cop comedy Hot Fuzz. Cheers to that!
