I’m very unsure about Super 8. Everyone seems to be latching onto the “80’s Spielberg Nostalgia” angle and I don’t get it. When I want warm feelings about 80’s Spielberg works I revisit 80’s Spielberg works. I don’t need a new one. In fact, in many ways I think the man is more interesting as a filmmaker now [though War Horse can piss off]. Even further, I like what JJ Abrams is doing as a feature filmmaker. I think he’s 2-2 and am anxious to see what his take on a softer alien story might be like. Nostalgia is very, very dangerous. And overblown.
Super 8 just needs to be its own thing and not hitch onto anyone’s coattails.
