One of the most anticipated movies of the summer has a shiny new trailer, and an official synopsis.
The Super 8 trailer debuted in the wee hours of Friday morning, the first trailer to debut solely on Twitter. It mimics the Super Bowl spot quite closely, except it fills in the blanks, and fills you with a sense of utter dread.
Was I the only one hoping for friendly alien encounter, a’la Close Encounters and E.T.? Probably. This is Spielberg as filtered through Abrams’ Cloverfield. We’re no longer the optimistic kids of the 1980s. Now our cameras capture something much darker and sinister.
The clever can go frame by frame trying to figure out just what it is. I’m sure there’s a glimpse of it somewhere. All I need to know is that it’s taking dogs for me to root for Kyle Chandler and some determined kids to wipe this thing off the earth — though not before documenting it.
TwitVid’s embed code isn’t working (I’ll update if and when I find an embed) but for now, go to TwitVid to watch it. In the meantime, here’s the synopsis to mull over.
In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
