casI admit, I quit Deadwood. After they killed Wild Bill I felt like the series lost all forward momentum, since I didn’t find the continued use of “cocksucker”and “motherfucker” as novel as the rest of the TV audience, what with me being an Italian from New York.

I may have missed out on some stuff, but I’m not really annoyed at skipping the whole second season. Now I may have a reason to come back to the fold, though – Brian Cox is joining the series in its third season.

Cox will be playing “Jack Langrishe, an eccentric producer and theater owner who strives to introduce a modicum of culture to the mean streets of the South Dakota town.”

Cox is only signed on for seven episodes – whether that means he’ll be coming on late or if he’ll be getting gunned down remains to be seen. What I can tell you in advance, though, is that if there’s one actor who can stand up to Ian McShane’s Al Swearengen, it’s Cox.
