Richard Kelly is finally getting some work out there for the millions of cult fans and hipsters who fell so madly in love with the man’s 2001 mindfuck, Donnie Darko. The first gig (as writer) is Tony Scott’s upcoming Domino, which may or may not feature a bounty hunter (I’m not quite sure as the marketing campaign has been a bit vague). It also looks like a ton of fun. The second gig, Southland Tales (which he also wrote), sees Kelly returning to the director’s chair alongside The Rockā¢, Sean William Scott, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. What’s it about? "The story is set in a futuristic Los Angeles as it teeters on the brink of social, economic and environmental disaster."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a whole slew of strange but kinda neat names have now been confirmed to make an appearance in some way, shape, or form: Cheri Oteri. Amy Poehler. Jill Ritchie. Miranda Richardson. John Larroquette. Jon Lovitz. Will Sasso. Wood Harris. Bai Ling. Joe Campana. Wallace Shawn. An eclectic bunch to say the least!
Of that grouping, only Cheri Oteri and Jill Ritchie’s roles are revealed… Oteri will play a "villianous lesbian bodybuilder" (I don’t think I can crack a joke after that description) and Ritchie will go whore out and play a hooker (D.E.B.S. fans rejoice!) that’s close friends with Gellar’s character.
Filming is underway at the moment with a release set for sometime in 2006. I’ll be visiting the set in mid September, just a few miles away from Devin as he visits The Poseidon Adventure while bringing healthy doses of communism to LA.
